Congratulations to Scotty and....a question!

Congratulations to Scotty!

On this day, North Carolina is swelling with pride at its new American Idol; Scotty McCreery!

As it should be since Scotty represents us well with his appeal, boyhood southern charm and the depth to which he carries his faith.

Watching the decision being announced and feeling such exhilaration for this young man; his future so bright with infinite opportunities I couldn’t help but ponder how this seventeen year olds life will never be the same.

He will never stroll through the halls of his high school a ‘normal’ student contemplating grades, his class schedule or who he will sit with at lunch. Scotty won’t attend baseball practice to endure batting practice in 90 degree heat or grace his presence at church youth gatherings to just hang out!

No, my friends, life for this spirited Idol has stopped on a dime! And I only pray Scotty holds fast to his strong family Christian roots in the whirlwind existence he will now live out.

Viewing the dramatic shift has caused me to wonder if there has been a moment or circumstance in my life that I could possibly step back and state, ‘My life will never be the same!’ –hmmm, I’ll give it careful thought. In the meantime, I pose the question to you: has there been a circumstance in YOUR life where your life has significantly changed?

I’d love to hear your story.

I've never watched any of the "Idol" programs, Canadian or American, but I assume he's highly talented and so deserves the congratulations.

There have been a number of circumstances that have led to significant life changes, but most of them involve loss, suffering, death and ensuing depression. So not cheery and not be recounted. There have been a couple of times in my life, though (when I was 12 and when I was 32) that the events were positive and exciting, fulfilling.

I have no doubt that he will be just fine, his goodness runs very deep as does Lauren's. Did you hear him say last night, that where he goes she does too?! Cute! ;D

So happy for Scotty! A very talented, humble young man. I've had many changes in my life, some significant and I welcomed them with open arms. I always feel it is up to ourselves to make the best of those significant moments.

I have often said I have nothing extraodinary with my life. I do still think and hope that my time for life changing experiences will present itself soon. Perhaps if it doesn't show up I will have to go out and find it (which in itself is probably the answer to why it has never happened...)

I'd say the changes in my life have been small ones, but have been significant. I think always realize how significant they were after they happen.

I was thrilled for Scotty and I think both he and Lauren have the maturity and deep faith to handle this new challenge in life. I thought they both handled the results with great great humility. I think both will make good role models for young teens/adults. Mildred Nalley

There have been many -- the day I met my husband and the day my father died. Both life-altering.

Awww - well I guess my most pivotal moment was when I decided to go it alone three years ago.
Never looked back since!

Hi Tracy, I am finally sprung from the hospital!! I have just been catching up a bit with you. I love the song on your video and am glad your favorite won! It seems that no child should have to die, doesn't it? Still innocent, still with a life ahead. But our minds cannot understand or comprehend God's ways.

Hi Y'all,

In life there are a number of times there are defining moments, but we may not realize it at the time. Even I, a simple dog, have had such a moment.

Never having seen the show, he certainly looks like a nice clean cut young man and we can only pray he makes the most of his opportunities.

Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

I think that life-altering moments have come on gradually with me. All of a sudden I realize there was a choice I had made and it changed the course of my life. Altered it complettely without me realizing.
Sometimes good...or not. But it goes on.....

My husband and I had a moment about 20 years ago when he was in the army and we had to decide between being an 'enlisted man' and liking his job and making less (a lot less) money, or becoming an officer and taking a job he didn't like with a lot of pressure but meant a lot more money and higher 'social status.' We opted for liking his job and being happy--We've never regretted it.

just listened to the song...wow...both are amazing singers. I'd vote for them and what a great opportunity for him to shine. Me....I had an experience....the day God reached far down into darkness to pull me out. He broke a 14 year drug addiction, healed me from the shame from being kidnapped and raped....and filled me with a joy and peace that sometimes makes me feel like I'm going to burst. He touched me with this amazing love that took away all the hate inside....and he melted away the fear and in its place filled it with faith and courage.

Okay I listened to him and he is going to be big. After reading Sarah, I don't think I can top her. But I do feel every moment has that possibility. Hope the storms did not get you and you are planning a wonderful holiday. :)

I was praying for him for your sake - - I mean for his fans sake:)
Singers are a gift from God. I just hope that he realizes that and hangs on to his values for the sake of people he will sing for.

There have been many circumstance in MY life ,where life has significantly changed? Some good, some bad...but that is why
"Life Happens while we're making other plans" ...
most times it comes down to listening to that little voice inside of you and not ignoring it until it grows and slaps you upside the head...

This young man's life is for sure never going to be the same again. He is an awesome singer indeed.

When my dad passed away (he was only 57 and I was 33) I knew that my life would never be the same again. No matter what happened, life would never be 'perfect' again. When something wonderful happened (ie: my son graduating), there was always going to be someone missing.

But what can you do? That's how life works I guess.

Excellent post Tracy!

I have never watched a single AI, ever
But I'm always happy when someone gets a big break

It's too late in the day to ponder significant changes other than my son of course but there have been a few

Great question! I don't watch AI anymore, but congrats on a local winning the show! How awesome! You're right, life will never be the same. Sometimes I wonder if that kind of wide success is something good or detrimental. It can really go either way. I would find every way I could to use my money and fame for good... and even then, you can never please every one. Just look at the comments for my Oprah post. She did amazing things, and half the peeps that commented don't like her for different reasons.
He will have to find a way to stay grounded, that's for sure. Sounds like he has a strong family support to see to it he does just that.
ANd to answer your question, there have been a few times where I chose to make my life different--to improve it. But the biggest change ever, was of course, becoming a parent.

I haven't watched any AI but I am sure I will hear more about this young man.
I haven't been able to comment on your blog but I have learned that if I chose anonymous, I can get through. Hope blogger fixes this soon.

First, congrats to this talented young man and wish him a successful journey.

(I have never watch this show before, but across blogland, everyone is talking about it! Time to catch up...)

Thankfully I haven't had too many life altering events but you don't get to be 66 without some. Most rotate around life threatening illnesses but God has been good to us and spared the end for awhile and has surrounded me with love so I feel like a winner just like that talented young man.

I read this earlier, but just now am able to post comments. This problem was a real bummrrr..
I'm not really into Country, but thought both those kids were pretty darn good. I was for Haley.
My world changed when I lost my husband. "Our" dreams of the future died too. I'm learning to stay in the present, but some days are just tough.

I thought of you when he was announced the winner. :)
I love that he thanked God first and foremost. I hope he stays close to those values too.

My dad died when I was 7 years old. That incident formed me and my fears of loved ones leaving me. It left very deep scars.
