Facts of Five and Updates....

1.) I've been sick! That's why I've been M.I.A. I have a throat filled with prickly pins, ears filled with cotton balls and a head full of well, I won't say it but it's not pretty. I don't make for a very good sick person. I try to maintain life as it is and manage to get myself in trouble because I push too hard and become exhausted...so I was given the good ol' 'Z-pak' to rid myself of a sinus and ear infections...make it work fast!

2.)  EOG testing week is here...which means End of Grade tests. Ever since George Bush instigated the law of No Child Left on Their Behind, whooops, I mean, No Child Left Behind, we've been giving these silly tests to measure children's achievements and aptitudes--can I tell you who's behind I'd like to shove these?

3.) Thank you for all the kind words and support on my Mother's Day post. To add to that, I had a wonderful Mother's Day from my boys. I received flowers, then for lunch  lobster tails, scallops over linguini and scalloped oysters and a day full of "Mom is the Best' sentiments which are irreplaceable. I love my boys!

4.) Only FOUR more days until Track Out!!!  Hurray!!! For all of you who don't know or remember, I teach in a year round school so we don't have summer breaks. We go to school for nine weeks with three weeks off --so this is my last track out for this school year. We return to school for three more weeks and the school year is over! One week later, a new one starts so can I just tell you how excited I am for track out? My goal is to GET WELL!!!

5.) I need BUYERS for my book...I haven't gotten an update on pre-sales but realize since I've not been given the G0-ahead, I presume sales have not reached 100! I'm not one to beg, demand or ask but this time is different; I REALLY want this~ and I'm so certain you will love this book because well, who could NOT love a golden retriever and his life? So click on the side bar photo of Hurricane and order your copy today! How's that for being demanding?

Feel better soon. It's always a long haul until the vacation comes! We are in the midst of MCAS testing. Just completed two days of math, next week two days of science. It's exhausting and everything else seems to come to a screeching halt!

I'm so sorry you're sick!! It seems you mentioned not feeling too well on one of your earlier posts, but I can't find it now. I know that Z-pack will kick in and you'll get well quick now!! I have been sick, too. Bad head and chest cold, ears stopped up, the virus has traveled to my stomach now. I caught it from Phil, and now others have caught it from us...It makes so much more sense to have school like yours rather than a whole summer off!!

Sorry you're sick!! That's never fun and I do hope your medicine does what it's supposed to do! Your Mother's Day does sound delightful and what delicious food!! I won't even comment on George Bush since I can't do it without being grossly unladylike! Take care, Tracy, get better soon!

Hehehe, love your NCLB reference. My biggest complaint to this is when higher ups tell me that my sped kids should be scoring at or higher on these tests because of all the money and interventions that has been spent on them. Duh, if money and interventions would 'cure' the sped kiddos then they wouldn't need sped!
Though I read the our current president wants to overhaul NCLB because FINALLY someone understands that not all children can be at or above average. Another DUH moment folks, anyone who had taken ONE education class knows this, it's called the good old bell shaped curved!

Hi Girlie, I'm so glad to hear from you. I've been worried.... So sorry you have been sick. That's no fun --especially this time of year.

How do you like year-round school? As a parent? As a teacher? I think that would make a nice blog. I always thought that kids would be better off with year-round school --and wouldn't forget everything they learned in the summers.... There are no year-round schools around here ---but I wonder if it will come to that sometime...

GET WELL...
Love and Prayers,
Betsy

Of course you know I'm curious about you having school year round. Never heard of that before. That must be exhausting for both teachers and students.

I'll check out your book.

Meantime, take care of yourself.

Yes I have heard about those tests a lot, the pain of them! Sorry for no break in the school, and I hope you sell books. I do not read books, I hate to admit!

Susan Fields said...

Our school district has been year-round for decades, and just this year they decided to go to a traditional schedule for next year. The year-round schedule was good for us. We especially loved the long fall break.

Good luck selling books!

Just checking in to see what you've been up to.

Been Z-packed myself for strepp throat.
And, as a former teacher I must remark...Isn't that NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND a crock!

As for me, Things are settling down around here but still trying to get used to the noise and clutter two little kids provide.

Yeah, what the heck was up with Blogger anyway???

I sure hope you're feeling better. My doctor gave me a z pack this year, too. And the results were amazing, I was better in literally 12 hours.

I made your pillowcases. I am happy with the way they turned out.

Which means you should watch for them this coming week. (16th-20)

All that testing is just ridiculous!! I don't like how that is the focus and our kids' education is compromised by all that testing. Ugh. I know the teachers hate it too.
