"O" is for Ocean....

perceptions + quotes + reality =
A to Z Challenge

As I sit and watch the ocean
It appears to be calm, but it isn’t always.
I notice the sea gulls, waiting in anticipation
Of something-food, a storm, perhaps a companion.
They watch me closely,
As if in some way, I would provide for their needs.
In the west, the sun begins to set,
Losing its brightness like a burned out fire.
The tide inches in toward me.
I feel it’s closeness as it caresses the rock
Upon which I sit.
The splashes feel like cold tear drops
Against my arms and face.
The sky, which was once blue jeweled with the sun setting
Is turning a dark grey.
Clouds rumbling like the rushing waves.
It’s getting late now.
The tide’s moving again.
I feel cold and lonely as it ebbs away.
Losing the tide’s closeness
Waiting for it to reappear
Soft and calm.

“Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone.”

The ocean has always been my favorite place to visit, and its mesmerizing draw is deep-seated and almost magical. You've done a fine job of capturing those feelings in your poem. Thank you so much for visiting my blog. I figured I'd return the favor in a quick fly-by, but since you've selected ocean for your O word, what can I say? I have no choice but to sign on as your newest groupie. Nice to meetcha!

That's lovely. I so enjoy the ocean. I've lived near it many times in my life and I miss it now. Though I love the mountains, too, which I have.

Very nice. I love the ocean, though my favorite ocean spot is oregon, which is NEVER calm. The Pacific against the rocks is ALL power. I love the enormity of it.

Your photo and poem was so beautiful. Loved every word.

I have a special relationship with the ocean....we are on first name basis.

We lived in Santa Barbara, CA when our youngest daughter was born (1970) and after I dropped the older children off at school, I would stop by the ocean and put Jill under my sweat shirt and nurse her...she'd fall asleep, and I'd take her home for her nap and my chores...Sweet memories.

Hmmmmmmmm.... How did I know that your "O" word would be OCEAN?????? ha ha....

I love the ocean too --and need that 'beach fix' at least once a year. BUT--the mountains are my passion...

Hope you get to the ocean soon.
Hugs,
Betsy
