The children...

Hurricane as an only child; didn't he look happy?
"In a cat's eye, all things belong to cats."
-- English Proverb

Given the antics performed by both Hurricane and Angel-Kitty since we brought our new little one home on Dec. 23, this is proving to be truer than we could imagine.

First off, Hurricane was not exactly thrilled we brought a cat into his territory and let us know by chewing the foliage on the plants and leaving them in strategic locations of the house; namely in the entry ways and stair landings. So, no matter where you walk throughout our humble abode, AH, gosh, wonder who munched on this leaf?

What's more, he spies the cat and fires up to begin the chase; up one set of steps, down another stair, around the island throughout the dining room and what was once a puzzle on our feasting board, well let’s just say it’s not only on the counter, but on the hardwoods, in the heating grates and God knows where all the pieces are. I presume it’s no longer a 1,000 piece puzzle!

Heavens to Betsy, then when I sit at the computer to write, they both make an effort to claim space on my lap; yes, imagine a 75 pound golden retriever attempting to climb up on one’s lap…well Hurricane does undertake the task! All the while Angel-Kitty is positioned on the desktop looking down on him having a hissy fit pawing at his nose. Lovely, certainly writing will be accomplished while this bedlam is occurring.

The best of all, dinner time! I don’t know where she acquired her courage but she parks herself at the side of Hurricane’s bowl and proceeds to muscle her way to his meal. And yes, we even have pictures to prove it! Imagine that; a two pound kitty influencing Hurricane to move aside and allowing her to help herself to the juices on his food. Then she saunters off with her tail high in the air and gets underway to devour her own chow.

This pandemonium takes place in the midst of our presence. Can you imagine what happens during the times we are at work and school? Geez Louise, get me that surveillance camera!

No, never mind; ignorance is bliss!

Beautiful pets and such fun antics! We often laugh as we have been away and pull into the driveway! We can just see our 3 cats and 1 dog hurrying their friends out the back door and spraying freshner to get cigar smoke out of the air!!! Amazing that your kitty is brave enough to lick the dog's food!

That one photo of Hurricane looking at you with "Save me!" in his eyes speaks volumes! :)

I'm so glad they are "getting along." Well, they put on a good show for the camera!

Our Maggie, a 15 year-old torti, is the same way with Buck and Sioux, our 2 German Shepherds. When they get their allergy pills in the evening, Maggie lines right up in between them to get her piece of cheese.

It's funny how cats always get the upper paw. All of mine ruled the dogs with firm kitty paws.--Inger

Great photos and a fun post! Our cat is a very dog savvy cat and even though she weighs less than 10 pounds, she never takes any thing from the goldens--Except their bed, I'm quite sure Angel Kitty will be doing that exact thing!! :-)

This was so funny and sweet! I loved that second food bowl picture, his expression is soooooooo easily understood.

Dogs are wonderfully patient and forgiving and loyal and fun....great personality traits to incorporate.

One of the things I love about cats is that a tiny little kitten will arch their backs and fluff out their tails and hiss, prepared to take on any enemy, even the ones 10 times their size...I need that kind of courage.

I'll bet that while you're at work, they sleep. Together. Peacefully. =P

Great photos. The English proverb is very true, good luck Hurricane. Perhaps Hurricane backs down at the food dish because he has felt the sharpness of a kitty claw, ouch!

What darling animals! We had a very large cocker spaniel that was totally ruled by his four sisters (cats). It got so that he even began to groom himself like they did!

Oh, I love it. I have the same problem here with two dogs and one cat. They chase each other all over the house and wreck havoc everywhere they run. Life is never boring when you have pets (or kids, or husbands!)

I can't stop laughing! Oh, this was a GREAT post and GREAT pictures, Tracy. These 2 are going to be the fastest friends in the world. If that was not so, she would never in a million years be able to snatch up Hurricane's food. Oh yeah, he loves her. I can't wait to hear lots more about both of them in the times to come. Love it! XOXOXO -- and that's to you and to Hurricane and Angel-Kitty :D

I can honestly say, "Keep your camera handy, it is going to get cuter!" That is adorable and imagine two (2) 80 pound shepherds trying to get in your lap :)

Brought back memories of my 2 dearly departed furry friends :)

Oh, this is a scream!! Hurricaine is a sweetheart, though! Very patient. I love the picture at your desk!! It must be such fun at your house. Why would you ever need T.V. with this to watch?

HA HA! Love the photos of the food battle at the end. :D Great post!

Haha ~ oh those photos are so cute! Kitty is certainly getting her licks in at the dog bowl ~ very funny! Well hopefully they will settle into a routine and be getting along famously soon! But how much fun you will have watching them in the mean time. :)

At least with children, you can send them to daycare, preschool or school. Maybe you need to look into doggie day care, to protect your house, and your dog!

They are beautiful and in harmony with each other!

Years ago we had 2 dogs and 1 cat. The dogs would NOT drink their water if there was anything in it. The cat would sit above the water bowl, literally pick up a piece of dry dog food and juggle it over the water bowl, all while the dogs watched and could do nothing about it. The cat would tease them for awhile before, OOPS!, dropping the piece of food into the water bowl. Then he'd saunter off, tail held high. We saw this happen on many, many occasions. Needless to say, I feel for Hurricane.

Cats rule and dogs drool, if you ask any cat. You really have to admire her moxie when you consider the size difference.

What a funny post Tracy.I alway have a few cameras near in my office.I get the whole tribe in, currently the dog is on my lap, but only 4 pounds. She chases the cats, but only one will play with her.I bought some special food for them for Christmas and it is reversed, the dog eats cat food and the cats eat hers.

Okay... you got me laughing throughout and I am following to continue to hear about the antics of your two loves! I've been in exactly the same situation! But for me it was having to protect my new German Shepherd pup from my older Siamese cat! And that continued even when the pup grew to weight 45 kilos and the cat stayed at 3!! She loved my previous German Shepherd but never took to the new guy! They are both gone now and I have a new little kitty (I will start blogging about him every Friday but for now his story is under Personal in my blog's menu) but their antics still put all my family and friends in stitches. What a lovely dog and what a cute cute kitten you have. But tell me...are they perhaps named backwards. It seems the dog is the angel and the cat the hurricane! :)
Blessings for an adventurous 2011!

In answer to your comment, your co-worker obviously doesn't read your blog. No way are you boring. Have her check the comments of the 32 people before me.
Thank goodness everyone isn't "the life of the party". That would be just awful. There just aren't enough lamp shades to go around.
The person you are is just superior, so enjoy.

Here's a little feline secret, but you didn't hear it from me...we don't do a thing while our humans are out, it's no fun if y'all are they to give us the attention. Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Thanks for coming over to my blog and leaving a comment on my birds! Come back anytime! I love the picture of Hurricane lying there rolling his/her eyes up looking pitiful! Pets are so funny! No, you probably don't want to know what they do while you are out!

Pets are so much like we are. They enjoy their space and do not anyone to intrude.

They're working things out pretty well it seems from the photos. Hurricane reminds me of my boy Nugget...we lost him a few years ago...and I still miss him. Goldens are the best! And so is your kitty...have fun!

I don't work as a ghost hunter or anything; we're artists, but you know you have to keep your eyes open ;) You never know what's hiding in the walls of an old building. Well, we do, now, and will show it in an exhibition.

I know this is a gross comment but I have to tell you:
while you are gone, Hurricane is eating Angel-kitty's droppings......
It's true, when I had both a dog and a cat in the house, the dog found the little nuggets in the litter box better than a dog treat. He would even move the dryer just so he could get better accest to the litter box....
Sorry, but thought you needed to know ;o)
